The Detroit Tigers will unveil their new uniforms on Friday when they face the Houston Astros.
According to Ryan Gustafson, president/CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, the City Connect uniforms embody Detroit’s unique blend of strength and ingenuity, paying tribute to the city’s pivotal role in the automotive industry. Gustafson stated in a press release, “From the tire tread patterns to the VIN tag and the M-1 patch on the sleeve, the uniforms, caps, and batting helmets boast distinctive elements that Tigers fans and Detroit residents will surely appreciate. Ultimately, these uniforms symbolize the Tigers’ resurgence and the promising future that lies ahead for both the team and the city.”
With their introduction, the Tigers become the 24th MLB team to feature City Connect jerseys, leaving only the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics without them by the end of the 2024 season.
Designed to celebrate Detroit’s automotive heritage, the jerseys resemble tire treads and include a racing stripe on each sleeve. Emblazoned across the chest are the words “Motor City,” evoking the spirit of Detroit’s industrial past. The design of the jerseys draws parallels to the Motor City uniforms previously worn by the Detroit Pistons.
The Tigers plan to don their City Connect uniforms for every Friday home game throughout the remainder of the season.
